“This is not like a salmon hatchery…this is all brand new stuff.”

In a recent publication on sea cucumber farming research in Alaska, it states – “This is not like a salmon hatchery…this is all brand new stuff. No one has done this before…The reasons such a spawn hadn’t been achieved before was because shipping the animals often caused damage to their health…
You can dump a bunch of sea cucumbers into an area at a small size and they could instantly be gobbled up by sea stars and not have a good grip on the bottom and not have enough food there…”

Do we really want “brand new stuff” to be tested in our local waters? Do we want our sea stars to disappear or perhaps be culled? This proposed sea cucumber application for occupation is experimental. The experiment should happen elsewhere in a controlled environment so that no negative impacts will be allowed in our coastal waters. I am clearly against the Sea Cucumber Applications.
