One Response to CVCS Submission to Government Agencies Regarding Sea Cucumber Research

One Response to CVCS Submission to Government Agencies Regarding Sea Cucumber Research

Phil Harrison says:

  1. Your approach to the scientific evaluation of a New Sea Cucumber Industry in Baynes Sound is excellant. However there is no mention of evaluating the potential impact on the Herring Fishery?

This submission is very different from the applicant’s proposal which suggests one year of questionable research. It is apparent from your indepth analisis that the research would take many years.

Given the present aquaculture pressure on the Sound (based on the 2001 report on aquaculture in Baynes Sound) and the over 70 hectares of sea bed netting, I suggest that this research project should be carried out in an other more suitable coastal area where it could be possible to implement a 262 hectare commercial sea cucumber ranch operation. The applicants have stated that they need this large sea bed area for commercial success.

Although your proposal does not include recreational or commercial factors- the natural beauty and recreational impacts are as important to me, as ecological factors. There are already far too many floats, rafts and sea bed netting in Baynes Sound.

    regards
