Have the applications been approved?

According to Kerry Marcus/DFO on November 2, 2012, the status of the sea cucumber Applications is as follows:

“The status of these files is unchanged to date. DFO has not begun a detailed review of the aquaculture licence applications, pending the consolidation and approval of a policy approach related to the expansion of uncontained sea cucumber aquaculture.”

The Ministry of Agriculture has not applied to DFO under the Project Review process to allow removal of beach wrack. Also, the “guidelines” Mr. Caine is referring to were draft guidelines from 2008 and had not been approved. In my view and that of interviewed DFO Habitat staff, the Min of Agriculture is in violation of DFO processes and the Fisheries Act.
